Latest News from India - P Sasi expelled on charge of moral turpitude

Thiruvananthapuram: The CPM state committee meet held here on Saturday has decided to expel P Sasi , former Kannur district secretary and state committee member, from the party. Earlier the CPM State Secretariat meet held on Thursday has recommended to suspend P Sasi But in the state committee, there were strong demands to expel him from the party.. The state unit of the party earlier handed out a lighter punishment by demoting him to the branch committee and has been now decided to suspend him on allegations of misconduct with the family of a comrade.

. It was in March 2011 that party demoted him to the branch committee. VS Achuthanandan then came down heavily against the lighter action stating it as improper. He publicly stated that no strong action was initiated against him and approached the central committee. In this the central committee asked to take strong action against Sasi.

In the meet on Thursday, CPM general secretery Praksh Karat himself asked for strong action against Sasi. Though the state secretariat has decided for a suspension for one year, it is somewhat clear that he might not be able for a comeback.
