Gul Panag for extending fashion shows to smaller cities

Fashion shows should not only be confined to metro cities, but they should also travel around to the 'so called' lesser understood cities, where people are more keen and associate themselves with fashion said model turned Bollywood actress Gul Panag recently in an event in Indore.

Fashion cannot be limited to cities of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, fashion shows should be held on a large-scale, said Gul, while addressing mediapersons at an event held to highlight fashion designer Neeta Lulla.

Lulla seemed keen to understand the market in the Madhya Pradesh and said her focus is on creations are that cater to the taste of people in smaller cities. Upcoming designer Abhishek Dutta was also present.

Lulla an ardent admirer of Bollywood said that fashion is a statement which influences everybody in the society and Bollywood reaches out to the people like no other.

It is easier to copy a trend but to put your own touch to it is a challenge and also important to recognise it as a style statement, said Gul. Identifying oneself with fashion as a personal style, is something which appeals to one and all, she added.

Style should not subdue fashion as carrying off anything you wear with grace and technique, is most important to me, said Gul.

When asked how she would relate to the costumes wore in films and in real life, Gul said that Bollywood was becoming ever more realistic by the day and the same can be seen in the dresses which are actors wear in films.

"Outfits in films are dependent on the character. One is portraying as a certain role and the clothes are made according to the script and what the character demands. One is representing a different person on screen and the outfits must be completely different from what one wears in real life," said Gul.

The function sponsored by a liquor brand did invite questions for the actress. Gul dodged off the questions related to endorsing liquor or cigarette brands, as she explained, 'it is a subject of personal choice'.

Newcomer in the block, Abhishek was rather candid as he said that wardrobe malfunction at times is a publicity stunt and the designers are very careful about it.
