Minister of State for Food and Civil Supplies Paras Jain has made it clear that there is no binding of buying entire ration at one time under the scheme for providing six months' ration to consumers of public distribution system. Therefore, consumers can also purchase one months' ration as per their purchasing power from fair price shops. He has asked the owners of fair price shops not to create confusion in this connection and force the consumers to purchase six months' ration at one time.
The State Government with a view to facilitate the consumers had started the scheme of distributing six months' lump sum ration from July 1. The scheme is evoking good response from both rural and urban areas. But information has been received that at some places fair price shop owners are either confused themselves or are confusing the consumers.
Jain said that consumers can also face difficulties to the confused state of fair price shop owners. Therefore, he made it clear that the objective of the scheme is to provide six months' ration to consumers as per their facility. Despite this, the option has been kept open for purchasing even one month's ration as per their purchasing power or need. He appealed to people's representatives also to make people in their respective areas aware of the actual situation.
The Minister has said that the State Government will take serious note of complaints against fair price shop owners about forcing consumers to buy six months' ration or not providing quantity as required by the beneficiaries. For this, he has asked the departmental staff to intensify vigil.
