PEC relents, allows students stream of choice

After a protest spanning three days, Punjab Engineering College (PEC) University of Technology on Monday, bowed to the parents demand of allowing all the students, to fill stream preferences, whose deposits were not recognised by its website due to technical fault.

The candidates of prestigious PEC were in for a rude shock on June 30 when the ‘inactive’ college website didn’t recognize their fee deposits.

After a meeting, the admission in-charge Sanjeev of Mechanical Engineering Department said: “We have decided to consider all the students who had logged-in till June 24.”

“All the students have to deposit their fee proofs on Wednesday by 5 pm and next day we will verify them. This will be followed by log-in either on July 8 or 9 to fill course preferences.”

Moreover PEC authorities have also informed the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to look into technical faults in the software.

PP Singh, father of a student, led the protest and 30 families joined the agitation on Monday. “They harassed us like anything. Today we were ready to hold a massive protest because they put the future of students at stake”, said Singh.

Ruckus was created in the campus, when the PEC authorities did not allow as many as 495 students to fill their stream preferences. Authorities claimed that these students were not registered. It was for the first time that PEC has called for online admissions. However, the faulty system landed them in trouble.
