Chenganoor: An old woman was charred to death on Tuesday inside her house which was locked by her children when they went out. Chellamma, 78, wife of late Raghavan from Karakkad, was declared dead on Tuesday at 1 pm. She was residing with her daughter Valsala and son-in-law Udayabhanu. Udayabhanu and Valsala left home with food to their son, who is running a chit company in Chenganoor.
Chellama is suffering from memory loss and usually the family goes out locking her up in the house. Seeing smoke and fumes coming out from the house, the natives called out for Chellama but there was no response. They went inside breaking open the door and found her dead. The inner part of the house was completely gutted. Earlier, Chellamma attempted suicide twice by jumping into the well. Sobha is her other daughter.
