    Latest News from India - Shops remain closed in protest of murder of IUML worker

    Kannur : The shops and business establishments in Taliparamaba muncipality and Pattuvam panchayats in this district remain closed today in response to a hartal called by the United Democratic Front (UDF) to protest against the murder of an IUML worker C T Anvar (28), in an alleged attack by CPI(M) activists yesterday. Police said vehicles were plying as usual as transport was exempted from the dawn-to dusk hartal in Taliparamba muncipality areas. Large number of police led by Kannur Superindentent of Police Anup Kuruvila were camping in the area and the situation was under control.

    Meanwhile, a CPI(M) controlled Krishnan memorial library at Parapool was ransacked by IUML activists at late last night.

    A protest march was organised by IUML activists at Taliparamaba town in the morning.

    Police registered cases against ten CPI(M) activists in connection with the murder. However, no arrest was reported so far.

    Anvar (28), a painting worker was succumbed to his injuries at last late night. on the way to Mangalore hospital, while his friend C V Jaseel (28) was seriously injured and was admitted at Mangalore hospital.
