Latest News from India - Chamber skeptical on implementation

Kochi: The Kerala Chamber of Commerce and Industry today welcomed the budget in general, but expressed concern whether the proposals could be implemented in reality. The weak financial position with a huge revenue deficit which had almost doubled in the last five years, the high debt equity ratio of 2.5 percent and a per capita debt of Rs 890 which was very high compared to all neighbouring South India States raised this doubt about the ability to implement the proposals, he said.

Tourism could have been given more importance. Religious tourist destination development was welcome like Rs fove crore to Sabarimala, Zero Waste plan, upgradation of Erumeli Township (Rs two crore), development of Ernakulam Sabarimala road connectivity (Rs two crore) and Sivagiri, Papanasam tourist destinations development, he said.

This would bring in economic progress, a press release said.
