    Jewellery loot in Kottayam: 2nd accused a crorepathi

    Kottayam: What prompted the second accused in the jewellery loot case in Kottayam, Manoj Xavier, who was held on Thursday, was financial debt. Manoj looted 7 kg gold from the jewellery shop at gunpoint with the help of his employee in Santhanpara Murukesan to pay off debt of Rs 45 lakh loss incurred in IT business in Dubai. Manoj owns 12 acres of cardamom plantation worth more than 1.5 crore in Idukki. He was in gulf for the 12 years and incurred heavy loss in IT business. He brought the cardamom plantation one year back. As he had so far lived in better living condition, he was not willing to pay the debts after selling the land. The culprits reached Kottayam with bike on Tuesday and fake registration number was fixed on the bike. After the loot Murukesan was dropped in private bus to Vaikom and Manoj after abandoning the bike went to Vaikom in a car which he earlier parked their Duirng these times he tried to contact Murukesasn there was no reply. Manoj who waited for Murukesan till 5 pm in Vaikom later went to Ernakulam. While reaching his wifefs home at 6.30 pm, he saw TV channels flashing news on Murukesan as the police caught him by that time. So he made plan to flee to other state. Before that he planned to shift his wife and kids to their flat in Kathrikadavu. Police booked him while he was reaching the flat with family by tracing his mobile phone.
