Thiruvananthapuram: The state government on Monday backtracked from the proposed talks with Kerala Government Medical Officers (KGMOA) Association. It is learnt that the govt took such a step as it is dissatisfied with the doctors continuing their strike even after being called for talks. The government is unhappy over KGMOA stand even after the talks on Sunday. Though the doctors waited till Monday evening they were not invited for talks. It was informed that the talks would be held in the presence of chief minister, health minister and finance secretary. Doctors are expecting that the talks would take place before the CM leaves for Delhi on Tuesday noon. After the doctors boycotted Specialty OP, many of the patients were put into hardship in government hospitals. Many surgeries were postponed.
As the Sunday meeting could not produce any result or convince the doctors to withdraw their proposed indefinite strike, a meeting with the Chief Minister and Health Minister was planned on Monday.
On Sunday, KGMOA leaders said if there was no written agreement, they would continue their strike with no compromise.
The leaders also hinted that they would boycott Specialty OP and private practice as part of strengthening their strike, demanding various issues, including a solution to anomalies in the wage revision.
The KGMOA had announced that they would go on indefinite strike from July 30 on various issues, including amalgamation of special allowance in the basic salary, hike allowance of specialist doctors and time bound promotion.
