Determining the role of CBI in the 2G spectrum scam through his book ‘2G and CBI’, former IPS officer and author Joginder Singh on Tuesday called a panel discussion on his book inspired by his experience as a former head of the CBI.
Addressing the panelists, Singh said, “People have always alleged CBI for its role but surfacing series of scams CBI has proved its ability. There is not a single case where CBI has done excellent job. Similar jobs were done by CBI while unrevealing Commonwealth Games and Adarsh Housing Cooperative Society scams etc.”
Singh also added that in our country work of civil servants is interfered by politicians. “We have to revise the transfer policy of civil servants and make bureaucracy free from political interference,” he said. “In my book I have tried to explore role of each and every person involved in it,” he further added.
“CBI has to be given constitutional and independent status. As more often people alleged it as a puppet of a ruling Government. It depends upon the Government for everything — whether it is hiring an advocate or deciding to go in for appeal. So far as the CBI’s professionalism is concerned it is an equipped with most talented officers from all across India,” Singh said in the conference held at India International Centre.
As a member of panel former Cabinet Secretary, TSR Subramaniam said, “Writing over such a controversial issue is not an easy task. In this book the roles of Prime Minister and secretaries have also been discussed.” The conference was attended by senior journalist Alok Mehta, former Governor Ved Marwah, publisher of the book Narendra Kumar and several other dignitaries to express their views over the book.
