In yet another embarrassment for the battered Congress-led UDF Government in Kerala, a court in Thodupuzha, Idukki on Saturday ordered serving of summons on Water Resources Minister PJ Joseph of the Kerala Congress (M) for harassing a young woman by sending blank SMSs to her mobile phone and talking to her over the phone in obscene language.
As per the order of the first class judicial magistrate court in Thodupuzha, which admitted a case against Joseph, he would have to appear in person in the court on October 22. Joseph had resigned as Minister in the then LDF Government in 2006 after he was accused of sexually harassing a woman co-passenger aboard a Kingfisher Airlines flight from Chennai to Kochi.
The present case against Joseph is that he had sent several blank SMSs from his mobile phone to that of a woman, Surabhi Das, and that he had spoken to her in obscene language when she called him up to request not to harass her.
However, Joseph’s supporters say the case is a bogus one and part of a political conspiracy against him by detractors within the Kerala Congress(M).
