Clarifying on her support to the Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi’s three-day Sadhbhavana fast, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday said that it was only an “expression of goodwill”.
Talking to the media here Jayalalithaa dismissed any speculation on a change in political dynamics in the gesture. On Friday, she had deputed two of her party senior MP — V Maitreyan and M Thambidurai to be present at the fast.
Asked whether a political realignment can be expected, she said, “Not at all. You are reading too much into it. This was just an expression of good will.”
She added, “Narendra Modi has announced that he is going on a fast for communal harmony and peace and unity. This is also in line with our policy of secularism and communal harmony and peace. He spoke to me over phone and asked me to send somebody to facilitate his fast. So I have decided to send our two members of Parliament Group leaders, Thambidurai and Maitreyan.”
She dismissed another question as hypothetical when asked if she would support Modi as Prime Minister in 2014 Lok Sabha polls. “This is hypothetical question. I will answer such question when such a situation arises,” she said.
On petrol price hike, she said, “I had immediately issued a statement condemning the price hike and demanding that it be rolled back.”
Replying to a question if she would appear in the Karnataka court on October 20, Jayalalithaa said, “It is nothing new for me. I don’t view it as a setback, because, I have appeared in court on so many occasions, in the past.”
