Exactly after one month after the murder of RTI activist Shehla Masood, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday announced a cash reward of Rs 5 lakh for providing information about the murder of Shehla, who was shot dead outside her house in Bhopal last month.
On September 3, the CBI had registered a case against unnamed persons through the Bhopal unit. Shehla was shot dead in her car right in front of her residence in posh Koh-e-Fiza locality in Bhopal on August 16.
Madhya Pradesh police could not figure out the motive but suspected she was eliminated by powerful persons against whom she had filed RTI applications. Shehla was earlier gone on a hunger strike in Bhopal in support of Anna Hazare’s cause. She was also involved in other causes, including wildlife conservation.
Her father Sultan Masood has said he expected no justice, being a ‘lower middle-class person’, and did not think that police were probing the case sincerely. He had alleged that in January, Shehla had filed a complaint with the Lokayukta that she feared threat to her life from senior IPS officer Pawan Shrivastava.
In the past one month, both the district police and CBI made all out efforts to find out the reasons behind Shehla’s murder but failed to find any concrete clue in the murder case. The investigation of both the agencies (district police and CBI) continued to hover around the call details of Shehla’s mobile phone, but no suspect could be found till date.
