The accident took place near the Surya temple at Bundu on the Ranchi-Jamshedpur highway, about 60 km from the State capital. The bus (named Nagendra) started its fatal trip from Jamshedpur and was headed for Ara.
The drivers and helpers of both vehicles died on the spot as well as 17 passengers. Two persons succumbed to their injuries at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science. The unidentified body of a child was also recovered.
The bus had a sitting capacity of 46 passengers. It had 14 sleepers and four passenger seats in the driver’s cabin. The right side of the bus was smashed under the impact of the crash resulting in the death of the passengers. The deceased included four women.
When the bus was crossing a bend, the truck, which was coming from the opposite direction, hit the side of the bus which had swerved to avoid collision. The impact left the bodies smashed beyond recognition.
