Rejecting eminent lawyer Ram Jethmalani’s claim that money for cash for vote scam had come from it, the Congress on Monday instead sought to point out that veteran advocate’s change of stance owed to the meeting between cine-star Amitabh Bachchan and Amar Singh.
“Praan jaaye magar Bachchan na jaye,” Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury said, thereby hinting that the cine star’s meeting with Singh had some role to play in Jethmalani’s change in earlier stand. She, however, did not elaborate how.
Asked about YSR Congress leader Jagan Mohan Reddy’s offer of support to the Congress in 2014 polls, she said that her party would never say no to support from any party. However, hinting at Jagan’s own problem due to ongoing CBI probe against his assets, she said it would remain to be seen whether the Congress would need Jagan’s support in polls or the latter needs the former’s support (to prevent going to jail).
On DMK deciding to go alone in the local body elections, Chowdhury said, “We are not conjoined twins, joined at the hips.” The DMK has taken the decision on the advice of its cadre and it would not affect its alliance with the Congress.
