Comparision between Rahul, Gujarat CM ridiculous: Cong

The Congress on Monday slammed Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi terming his fast as farce and said the comparision between him and Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi as future Prime Ministers was ridiculous.

Criticising Modi for not accepting the cap offered by an Imam, Congress spokesperson Renuka Chowdhury quipped, "Modi doosaron ko topi pahnate hain, khud nahin pahante (Modi fools others, but does not get befooled).” She also claimed that the incident revealed the true aspect of the Gujarat Chief Minister's Sadbhavana fast that it was not aimed at communal amity. "In fact the fast has emerged as a new tool for weight loss programme which I should also embark on soon," she quipped.

Rejecting the US report that had lauded Modi's good governance while expressing doubts about Rahul's capability to lead the party, Renuka said India could not be run on the advice of the US. "It is ridiculous to compare the two as there is no comparision between them. Modi should fight some one of his own age."

The detention of Gujarat riot affected people who had come to meet Modi along with Mallika Sarabhai on Sunday has shown that though he claimed to espouse the cause of tolerance, it was actually not happening.

Rejecting all the talks about Modi being in the race for PM in 2014, she said that NDA itself is divided in the pro-Modi and anti-Modi camps with the JD(U) opposing the Gujarat CM.

On why none of the senior Congress leaders from AICC went to support of Shanker Singh Vaghela's fast aimed to counter Modi's, she said that Vaghela is big enough and tall enough leader to manage on his own.

Modi is trying to counter fatigue factor against his government in the state by this tall posturing. If he is seriously a PM candidate, then must clarify who is the CM candidate for BJP in the assembly elections due next year, claimed a senior party leader on condition of anonymity.
