Sena chief not impressed, nephew says Modi best

Making no bones about his displeasure over Narendra Modi’s efforts to conduct himself as a secular leader, Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on Monday asked the Gujarat Chief Minister — in his race for the Prime Minister’s post — not to administer “poison of secularism” to the Hindus.

On day when his nephew and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Raj Thackeray supported Modi’s bid for Prime Minister’s post, the Sena chief said: “Modi should not forget it is the Hindu vote-bank that has helped him reach a position he is in today. Therefore, it is essential for him to pursue the Hindutva cause.”

“Hindu Ram sevaks were killed in Godhra carnage and that’s why the enraged Hindus retaliated.. Do not kill Hindus by administering a dose of poison of secularism to them,” Thackeray advised Modi, in his editorial in the Sena's official mouth-piece Saamna.

Reminding Modi not to forget that after Maharashtra, it was Gujarat which was considered as the laboratory of Hindutva, Thackeray said: "Modi's battle may be for the ''gaddi'' (throne) in Delhi, but he should realise that he cannot achieve his goal without the ''sadbhavana'' (goodwill) of Hindus".

Debunking leader of the Opposition in the State Assembly Eknath Khadse's criticism of Maharashtra during his speech at Modi's fasting venue, Thackeray said that the senior BJP leader should have refrained from making such a statement in Gujarat.

Khadse's statement that Thackeray took objection to was: " Maharashtra pales in comparison with the vast progress made by Gujarat. Gujarat means brightness and Maharashtra is nothing but darkness"

"Khadse should not have projected Maharashtra in such a poor light he did and that too in another state like Gujarat," the Sena chief said.

In a related development, MNS chief Raj Thackeray came out in support of Modi's bid for Prime Minister's post, by saying that the Gujarat chief minister was a "good Prime Ministerial material"

"Modi could become a good PM and my party will support him. In fact, anybody who wants to work hard for the country can become a good PM," Raj said.
