The CBI on Friday conducted searches at the premises of former president of Dental Council of India Anil Kohli after registering a disproportionate assets case against him. Kohli has allegedly amassed disproportionate assets during April 1, 2005 to March 31, 2009 — during which he served as president of DCI.
“During the searches, it was found that the accused has made huge investments in properties which include a palatial house at Gulmohar Park, four shops at Lajpat Nagar and a farmhouse at Chawla (near Najafgarh) all in New Delhi,” CBI spokesperson Dharini Mishra said.
The spokesperson said the case was registered against the former DCI chief after the agency concluded its initial probe into the complaint filed against him for allegedly amassing wealth disproportionate to his known sources of income.
Searches were on at six places after registering the case, the spokesperson added.
The agency was probing Kohli’s role as DCI president between 2006-2010 following allegations that he received favours from dental colleges for verification and cancellation of compliance reports of certain institutes. He had resigned from the DCI in 2010 following a case filed in a high court challenging his appointment as DCI chief.
Earlier, the Health Ministry had constituted a two-member committee to probe the charges against him. The Enforcement Directorate has also conducted a probe against him.
The allegations against the DCI chief include “amassing huge amount of un-accounted money, illegal income and wealth and indulgence in self-seeking decisions as an influential functionary of DCI”.
