BJP plans Anna-style packaging of Advani’s yatra

The BJP on Friday took a cue from Anna Hazare’s anti-corruption movement and discussed in great detail how to “package” veteran LK Advani’s Yatra as a unique exercise that could mobilise people of the country against the rampant corruption under the UPA regime.

On the first day of the BJP’s national executive here on Friday, general secretary Ananth Kumar made a detailed presentation to party leaders on the route and schedule of the yatra that would start from Jayprakash Narayan’s birth place at Sitab Diara in Bihar on his birth anniversary on October 11.

Kumar has been appointed the in-charge of the Yatra, which would travel around 8,000 km covering 18 States and three union territories. Kumar, a Lok Sabha MP from Karnataka, told party leaders here that they need to learn from Hazare’s recent campaign, which brought the country to a standstill on the issue of corruption.

Kumar underlined that it was the packaging of the Hazare’s event, which was instrumental in making it a grand success, and the BJP leaders in state should also concentrate on how to present the event as a unique concept. The Yatra by Advani, the sixth such exercise by the senior BJP leader, has been named as Jan Chenta (public awakening) Yatra.

“I am happy, through the nationwide Yatra of our senior leader Lal Krishna Advani, which is all set to commence from Jayprakash Narayan’s birthplace in Bihar on October 11, good governance and clean politics will now become the focus of public discourse. I must point out here that October 11 is the birth anniversary of three great leaders Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan, Shri Nanaji Deshmuk and Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia,” BJP chief Nitin Gadkari said earlier in the day.

The party also decided to assign tasks to its senior leaders to manage the Yatra in different states. General Secretary JP Nadda would take care of Punjab and neighbouring states while Vijay Goel would look after Rajasthan. Former BJP chief M Venkaiah Naidu would take care of Delhi and Maharashtra, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi will look after Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand.
