Defence Minister AK Antony will review with his Russian counterpart AE Serdyukov the status of joint project like fifth generation fighter aircraft(FFGA) besides issues relating to licensed production of T-90 tanks and SU-30 fighter jets in India during his three-day visit to Moscow starting Monday.
Antony will take stock of these projects while co-chairing the 11th meeting of the India-Russia Inter-Governmental Commission on Military Technical Cooperation (IRIGC-MTC) with the Russian Defence Minister.
The two sides will also prepare the groundwork on issues of defence and strategic relations ahead of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s summit level talks with the Russian leadership in Moscow in December.
Giving details of Antony’s agenda for Moscow, Defence Ministry spokesman Sitanshu Kar said here on Friday besides regional and global security issues, the two sides will also review the progress of important ongoing projects such as FGFA, aircraft carrier Gorshkov, delivery of frigates and multi-role transport aircraft. The two sides will also deliberate upon aspects relating to licensed manufacture and maintenance of T-90 tanks and Su-30 MKI aircraft.
The two countries had signed an inter-governmental agreement for joint design, development and production of FGFA involving Sukhoi Design Bureau on the Russian Side and Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on the Indian side. The IAF will buy nearly 300 aircraft expected to be ready by the end of this decade. The two countries will also explore possibilities of exporting these jets to other countries.
