With the Congress high command and the Central Government appearing in no mood to take an early decision on Telangana issue, a State Minister from Telangana region Komatireddy Venkat Reddy on Saturday quit the Cabinet. Minister for infrastructure Venkat Reddy met Governor ESL Narasimhan and submitted his resignation to him.

He also resigned from the State Assembly. Another Congress MLA Ch Lingaiah has also resigned along with him.

The Minister resigned as the the indefinite strike by the Telangana employees, teachers and other sections entered 19th day on Saturday as the administration remained paralysed in the region. With the power generation declining further, the power shortage has worsened and the duration of power cuts has been increased further.

Venkat Reddy, who drove to Raj Bhavan with hundreds of his supporters was profusely garlanded after quitting the cabinet. He also offered tributes at the Telangana Martyrs memorial in front of the state assembly. He also wrote a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi demanding an immediate decision on Telangana.

Talking to the media on the occasion Venkat Reddy urged all the other ministers and Congress MLAs from Telangana to immediately submit their resignation and go to the people. Venkat Reddy will be going on a day’s fast in Nalgonda on Sunday and address a public meeting in the evening. Reddy was also accompanied by his brother and member of Lok Sabha K Rajagopal Reddy.
