Chief Minister Narendra Modi has asked the Centre to shun the path of conflict with Gujarat and instead join the race for development with the State.
Addressing a function to dedicate the Mahatma Gandhi Smriti Bhawan and the District Seva Sadan at Porbandar on the Mahatma’s birthday, Modi said that the Centre should stop maligning Gujarat anymore.
Though Gujarat is very much part of India, the Congressmen at the Centre are envious of the State’s progress and pounce upon the State at the slightest pretext, Modi said. It is time for the people of Gujarat to identify these foes of Gujarat, he added.
Gujarat’s model of development and administration have been hailed by people all over the world over, Modi said at the function after paying his tributes to the Mahatma at his birthplace Kirti Mandir on Sunday morning.
Citing instances of the State’s growth chart in the last decade under his regime, Modi said that Gujarat’s cotton production has gone up to 123 lakh bales from only 23 lakh bales.
The fast industrial development of the State has pushed up agricultural land prices and, thus, farmers can sell their land at prices decided by them, the Chief Minister said.
Addressing a rally at the Chowpatty grounds of the coastal town, Modi also ridiculed Governor Kamla for not giving her assent to the legislations providing 50 per cent reservation for women in the local self-Government bodies and also the Impact Fee bill that would have helped lakhs of people to get their unauthorised constructions legalised.
Participating at an all religion prayer meeting at Gandhiji’s birthplace Kirti Mandir, Modi described the Mahatma as the ‘Man of the millennium’ whose principles of trusteeship can solve complex problems like global warming.
