Kannur :Kerala Agriculture Minister K P Mohanan today said the state government would encourage contract farming to avoid dependency on other states for food products.Inaugurating third Bank Day of Kannur District Cooperative Bank at bank hall here, he said under the contract farming the agriculture officials would have an agreement with the owners of unused agricultural land for the cultivation of the unused land for which government would provide infrastructure.
For the purpose, the government had decided to strengthen Krishi Bhavans in the State by converting them in Kisan Panchayat Model, he said.
Mr Mohanan gave away Karshaka Sakthi Awards to five farmers of the district in separate fields. Mr M Mehboob, State President of Cooperative Bank gave away Vidhya Rathnam Awards to the children of 800 odd employees of the District Cooperative Bank who excelled in class X and XII.
