The BJP on Friday named several Congress leaders, besides pointing fingers at unnamed Congress leaders at the national level, as the beneficiaries of what it said was a whopping25,000-crore mining scam spread over the last two years.
Kirit Somaiya, a national Secretary of the BJP and chairman of the party’s scam expose committee, said, “This is the biggest mining scam in India — at25,000 crore in just two years. Like the 2G scam, the scam money is being routed through companies set up in tax havens like Mauritius and Cayman islands.”
Addressing the media during his visit to the State, Somaiya named Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Subhash Shirodkar, Urban Development Minister Joaquim Alemao, local Congress politician Dinar Tarcar, Home Minister Ravi Naik’s son Roy, Health Minister Vishwajeet Rane, Congress MLA Shyam Satardekar and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Jitendra Deshprabhu as the beneficiaries of the illegality, and dared Congress leaders to refute the charge.
“The scam does not end at Digambar Kamat. A person in the Congress head quarters at New Delhi is also involved in the25,000 crore mining scam,” Somaiya said.
The BJP now plans to take up the issue through all possible avenues and even through the President of the country, whom Somaiya said he would meet along with BJP president Nitin Gadkari, besides also handing over the evidence collected by the party to the chief vigilance commissioner, Comptroller Auditor General of India Vinod Rai and in addition file a complaint with the CBI in the Goa illegal mining scam case.
“We are demanding setting up of a specially formed Special Investigation Team (SIT) under a High Court judge to probe the scam within fifteen days, failing which we might go to the judiciary seeking the same,” Somaiya said.
