Telugu film actor and Congress leader Chiranjeevi on Friday met Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and urged him to take an appropriate decision on Telangana soon, as any further delay could deteriorate the situation further in Andhra Pradesh.
Chiranjeevi, who had merged his Praja Rajyam party with the Congress, held a half an hour meeting with Rahul at 10, Janpath—official residence of Congress President Sonia Gandhi— and informed him about the situation in the state where pro-Telangana agitation has reached 25th day. Significantly, Chiranjeevi is a supporter of united Andhra Pradesh, emphasized that the party must make its mind on the contentious issue soon.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh governor ESL Narsimhan has been summoned to Delhi along with a report about the situation in the state. Narsimhan, former Director of Intelligence Bureau, is likely to meet Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday and give his report about the law and order situation.
Realising the gravity of situation, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Home Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister A K Antony and Health minister and AICC General Secretary incharge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad are meeting to discuss the Telangana issue. Though the Congress is still undecided on the issue, it realizes that the matter could not be left pending for long.
