BS Yeddyurappa, who is facing 15 cases in two private complaints filed by two Bangalore-based lawyers Sirjin Basha and KN Balraj, fell sick in high security central prison at Parappana Agrahara on Sunday. He had to be shifted to Intensive Care Unit of Jayadeva Hospital after he complained of chest pain in the wee hours of Sunday.
According to sources, Yeddyurappa vomited thrice within an hour, following which he was shifted to hospital at 1:45 am. Sources in the hospital said his condition was stable. Yeddyurappa is expected to apply for bail in the Karnataka High Court on Monday. Early on Sunday morning, Karnataka Chief Minister Sadananda Gowda, who was chosen by Yeddyurappa as his successor, and other Ministers visited the former Chief Minister at the hospital. Talking to the media, he said Yeddyurappa was under doctors’ observation.
The Karnataka Chief Minister said, “He is under treatment and I had a discussion with the doctor. He said that the diagnosis will continue today or tomorrow... It takes 48 hours to come out with the report... At present, he is not in a position to speak. He is under observation.”
Yeddyurappa was sent to jail on Saturday after the court rejected his bail application. The former Chief Minister surrendered around 4.45 pm in a Lokayukta court on Saturday and was sent to judicial custody till October 22.
The cases being heard against Yeddyurappa pertain to denotification of land near Bangalore while he was Chief Minister.
He has been accused of illegally denotifying land that had been reserved for projects of public interest to benefit people close to him.
The BJP had asked Yeddyurappa to resign as Chief Minister of Karnataka on July 31 after he was indicted in Santosh Hegde’s report on illegal mining.
Justice Santosh Hegde had filed several reports that alleged that Yeddyurappa misused his public office to benefit his friends and family. His prosecution under the Prevention of Corruption Act was sanctioned by the Governor, HR Bhardwaj. Yeddyurappa will apply for his bail before the Karnataka High Court on Monday.
