Embarrassed over the arrest of former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yeddyurappa, the BJP on Sunday tried to return the fire to Congress by asking why no action had been taken against Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dik**** and Home Minister P Chidambaram for their role in CWG and 2G scams.
Former BJP chief Rajnath Singh, who is leading the Jan Swabhiman Yatra in Uttar Pradesh, told a news channel that the party will not support anyone having corruption charges against them.
“BJP is a huge party and people from society enter it. But the important point is that we are not giving support to anybody who is alleged to be corrupt, unlike the Congress which is promoting corruption in the country,” Rajnath said.
When its top leader LK Advani is on a nationwide tour against corruption, the BJP also sought to be on an offensive. It pointed out that Yeddyurappa was asked to quit, and he resigned, immediately after the Lokayukta report, naming the then chief minister, was out.
“On the other hand despite Shunglu Committee and CAG reports against Sheila Dik**** no action has been taken,” BJP spokesperson Ravishankar Prasad told reporters in Hoshangabad. He also recalled that Dik**** cabinet colleague Raj Kumar Chauhan was bailed out by the Home Ministry despite an adverse report by the state Lokayukta.
Prasad also claimed that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was supporting Home Minister P Chidambaram even though “new evidences” are emerging against him in the 2G case.
Even the RSS tried to play it safe on Yeddyurappa’s arrest. RSS Sarkaryavah (general secretary) Suresh BHaiyaji Joshi told reporters in Gorakhpur that the outfit would wait and see the judicial process take it course.
