Low cost carrier from Malaysia AirAsia X plans to get break-even on Delhi- Mumbai routes in the next six month on the back of better load factor.
“Normally we get break even on any route in a year or so as we sell a destination to our customers but on Delhi-Mumbai routes we are not getting enough customers to break-even. We need to get more travellers to India because passengers from here fly to Kuala Lumpur mostly during peak seasons. We need more two-way traffic and in the next six months we hope to increase our load factor from 70 per cent to 75 per cent, which is our break even level,” said AirAsia X CEO Azran Osman Rani.
The airline is also in desperate need of more bilaterals to increase its frequencies to Delhi and Mumbai but it doesn’t see that happening at least in the immediate future. “We want to fly more to Mumbai. But the Govt is reluctant to give us more air traffic rights as Indian carriers were not fully utilising these rights to fly to Kuala Lumpur and hence the reciprocal rights were not being allowed to be expanded,” added Rani.
