It’s official! Tiger in Saranda forest

After initial evidences and forensic reports it is proved that Asia’s biggest Sal forest, Saranda has tigers. It is good news for wildlife lovers as it is now official that Saranda is a habitat of big cats also.

The Pioneer had reported on October 15 that for the first time the forest officers got hints of the presence of a male tiger. This is contrary to general perception that big cats never existed in Saranda. Sensing the positive signal, a team of wildlife experts were rushed to the dense forests on October 8.

Chief Conservator of Wildlife and Biodiversity, AK Gupta said, “The team of researchers examined the pug marks, excreta and fur of the tiger and the results were positive. We got massive pug marks in the forest.”

He added that it is a big male tiger. The recently found, each of the pug mark of the tiger is of 14 inch. Describing the finding he said that on October 7 villagers of the adjoining area reported to Saranda Range officer Bhuvan Mehta that two critically injured buffaloes returned to home while third was found to be missing. A small group of two forest staffs and few villagers entered the forest in search of the missing buffalo.

“I got a call from the range officer about the suspected pug marks of tiger on the very day. It was unbelievable and immediately on October 8 the team of six members including the local wildlife officers and members from Ranchi were sent to Saranda to collect the samples,” he said.
