On the occasion of Diwali and Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day, gift of reduction in age limit for old age pension has been given to 19.50 lakh elderly persons. Now, old age pension will be given on completion of 60 years of age in place of 65 years.
Giving this information, Panchayat & Rural Development and Social Justice Minister Gopal Bhargava said that the pension amount of those over 80 years of age has been increased to `500 per month from `200.
Arrangements of amended pension will come into force in the State from Madhya Pradesh Foundation Day on November 1.
Bhargava informed that about two lakh elderly persons will be benefited by the decision to increase pension of those over 80 years of age under Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension from `200 to `500 per month. Similarly, pension worth `275 per month will be given to elderly persons between the age of 65 years and 79 years. This will benefit 12 lakh 27 thousand 418 BPL category elderly persons.
Five lakh 23 thousand elderly persons belonging to BPL category will be benefited by the decision of reducing age limit for Social Security Pension from 65 years to 60 years. They will be given pension `200 per month each.
