The completely naked body of a police constable was recovered from the railway tracks under mysterious circumstances near platform number 4 of Habibganj railway station on Saturday morning.
The police uniform of the victim was found lying on a bench of the platform along with a bottle of costly liquor bottle and Rs 1,510 cash.
Police said that the constable, Govind Prasad Yadav (30) was a resident of Jabalpur and posted in police lines Jabalpur. The victim had taken a jail inmate Montu alias Gaurav to Indore for a hearing in the court on Friday, along with two other constables Santosh and Chander.
Surprisingly, Govind was found dead on tracks on Saturday while the other constables and the accused reached Jabalpur safely. Sources said that mobile of the victim was recovered from the other two constables.
SHO of GRP Habibganj Kailash Singh Dande said that a case under section 174 of CrPC has been registered and the body has been sent for post-mortem.
"Since the body was naked and his uniform was found on the platform, we cannot reach any conclusion at this time. All the constables and the accused were heading towards Jabalpur and therefore presence of Govind at Habibganj railway station raises doubt. Besides this, recovery of a costly liquor bottle raises several questions," Dande said.
Police have started investigations in the case. The constables and the accused Montu will also be interrogated in this regard.
