THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala water authority (KWA) will provide a toll free complaint number to enable consumers to put across their grievances, including water shortage, leakages and contaminated water supply.
Water resources minister P J Joseph said that the facility would help officials to address consumers` grievances across the state. He added that a special cell would be set up to monitoring the calls round the clock.
"The department has been receiving several complaints, but there has been no centralised system to look into these issues. Due to this, we have not been able to keep a compliance track record. The toll free number will also register the nature of complaints. We will take action against officials who do not respond to complaints," the minister said.
He added that a Kuttanad package to the tune of Rs 379 crore would be released for the construction of bunds. "The long pending demand for the construction of Kariyar bridge cum regulator would be addressed soon," Joseph said, adding that once the dam becomes operational, 2,200 hectares of farmland would receive water. "The second phase of the Malampuzha garden is in the final stage of its completion. Also, 90 per cent work of Kollam-Kottapuram waterway is over," he said.
