Demand for CBI probe into OPGC fiasco mounts

Amid consistent demands from the employees union of Odisha Power Generation Corporation (OPGC) for CBI inquiry into the irregularities of the Corporation, a social activist on Friday filed a PIL in the Orissa High Court making similar pleas.

Bhavani Shankar Parija, claiming himself as a social activist, has filed the PIL, stating that irregularities, illegal activities and corruption are rampant in the AES-managed Corporation. The petition has prayed the High Court to order for CBI inquiry into all the irregularities of the Corporation as the State Government is non-committal over the issue.

Quoting from the CAG report, the petition filed by advocate Khirod Rout has alleged that the OPGC had shown undue favour in paying over `9 crore to the AES as dividend and there has been no attempt to recover the amount.

The PIL has not yet been admitted by the High Court, informed counsel of the petitioner, adding that efforts would be made to make a mention for early hearing of the case.
