The recent decision of the State Government to stop transportation of iron ore from mines to Paradip by trucks has been severely criticised by all the truck owners’ associations here.
They have threatened to go on an indefinite strike. The coordination committee comprising three local associations, Paradip Truck Owners’ Association, Jagannath Truck Owners’ Association and Jagatsinghpur District Truck owners’ Association, in a Press conference here, alleged that the State Government has blamed the transportation of iron ore by trucks as a cause of mineral theft to cover up the involvement of the Ministers and bureaucrats involved in illegal mining.
This erroneous decision will kill lakhs of people depending on transport business, alleged the coordination committee members. Truck owners are surviving by charging the freight for the iron ore they carry in their trucks and they are never indulged in illegal mining activities. But the Government is trying to cover up its own mistakes by passing the buck on the innocent transporters, the committee said. It also demanded the withdrawal of the decision.
All truck owners of the State will hold an agitation against such decision if the Government does not budge. They also said when the Central Vigilance Commissioner is investigating the illegal mining by the Railways, how the State Government is falsely accusing truck transporters for the malady.
