Bharatpur Meo Muslims to march to Rajghat
Members of the Meo community of Gopalgarh in Bharatpur, where 10 people were killed in police firing last month, would march to Rajghat in Delhi on Tuesday to press for their 10-point charter of demands.
The decision to march to Delhi was taken at a Meo panchayat held on Diwali. It also formed a Gopalgarh Golikand Sangharsh Samiti and elected Mahmood Khan as its president. Jahoor Khan, former Congress MLA from the area, was key leader to organise the panchayat.
The demands includes tracing of Meo Muslims, who are missing since September 14 when the police firing took place. Many leaders of the community think they were killed in the police firing, but their bodies were disposed of by the police clandestinely in a bid to show the death toll was low.
