    Bengal CPM in rejig mode

Grappling with a fast disintegrating organisational setup, the Bengal Marxists have decided to take in new “intrepid and honest” face to tone up its sagging organisational machinery.

Not only this, the party is also planning to replace at least 17 district committee secretaries, considered powerful member in the party hierarchy mostly on charges of “unclean image.”

This was decided in a two-day State committee meeting that primarily concentrated on how to rejuvenate the party organisation. The crucial meeting was attended by CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat.

Aware that the people were still not buying their arguments against Mamata Banerjee Government, the party has for now decided to refrain from raising issues against the Government and set its own house in order.

“We are passing through the most challenging time in the past several decades. Hounded and attacked by the Trinamool in villages we have lost 41 comrades in the past five months. Now in many places we do not have enough cadre to organise people,” Central committee member Benoy Konar said, adding the party would “give preference to courageous and honest faces.”

The meeting assumes importance with the State committee asking the lesser leadership to ease out members involved in “contract, promotion and building business” as this apart from the land policy “was the main reason behind the fall of image and eventual defeat in elections.”

“We will ask the members who were indulging in nepotism, bribery, contract supplying building materials, liquor business and promoting buildings to dissociate themselves from the party,” Konar said. “Earlier we used to promote good speakers and organisers but now we will concentrate on courageous comrades with clean image as we need them most against the Trinamool onslaught in villages,” he said.

Though he would not comment on the change of district leaderships, insiders said at least 17 district committee secretaries would lose their jobs mostly on charges of corruption and nepotism, sources said.
