The Delhi Government on Monday set December 1 as the final deadline for nearly 900 entrepreneurs who were yet to set up industrial units on land allotted to them for relocation of industries from residential areas. As per survey in June/July 2011 by DSIIDC, 24 per cent industrial units are running at allotted plots, while 23 per cent have been constructed but not running. The survey found that 40 per cent units were under construction and 12 per cent remained vacant plots.
The plots were given to the entrepreneurs between 1999 and 2006 to facilitate relocation of industries from residential areas to conforming zones and out of around 22,000 beneficiaries, 900 have not yet set up any industrial unit in the allotted plots.
“The Delhi Government has decided to give a final chance to the entrepreneurs before cancelling the allotment of plots. We have decided to offer a final deadline of December 1,” Chief Minister Sheila Dik**** said after a meeting.
The previous deadline elapsed on June 30 this year and the industries department had started the cancellation process on recommendation of infrastructure development agency DSIIDC which has been given the task of maintaining 29 industrial estates. But the Government on Monday decided to offer the “last chance”.
The Government had extended the deadline for setting up industrial units several times in the last couple of years. Officials said 22,449 plots were given from 1999 to 2006. But in 2007, it was found that some of the allottees did not take up construction activities and to ensure that plots are put to proper use, the allottees concerned were asked to set up the units within a year.
