BJP will oppose Communal Violence Bill in House: Joshi
Dubbing the proposed Communal Violence Bill as draconian and undemocratic as well as anti-Hindu, senior BJP leader Murli Monohar Joshi on Sunday said his party would oppose its introduction in the ensuing winter session of the Parliament.
Addressing a Press conference here, he alleged that the proposed Bill is unconstitutional and against the spirit of the country’s federal structure. The UPA Government is contemplating to introduce the Bill as a strategy to cover up its all-round failure, particularly regarding the price rise, security, law and order fronts, he said.
Pointing out that the provisions of the Bill were very dangerous, Joshi said it had all ingredients to interfere in the rights of the State Governments. It empowers the Centre, in case of communal riot, to intervene, over riding the State authority on the plea of “bias” or not taking appropriate steps.
He said the proposed Bill was aimed at dividing the society into ‘majority’ and ‘minority’ and demanded that the UPA Government should refrain from bringing such a draconian Bill. If the Central Government would carry on its exercise to introduce the Bill in the Parliament in the ensuing session of the Parliament, BJP would oppose it tooth and nail and also would not allow it to be passed.
