No-trust motion on cards, fiery session likely
The Winter Session of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly beginning on Monday is likely to be stormy with Opposition parties contemplating no-confidence motion against the BSP Government and also corner Chief Minister Mayawati over her proposal to divide the State into four smaller States. It will be a session of just two-days in which the State Government plans to take vote on account for the first three months of the next fiscal - a routine for the outgoing Government. Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh are due in early 2012.
All eyes will be on State Government’s move to bring a bill proposing the State’s division into four smaller States of Purvanchal, Awadh Pradesh, Paschim Pradesh and Bundelkhand. However, the sources claimed that the bill in that connection might be tabled in the House on November 22.
Interestingly, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC), which met here on Sunday, did not discuss that issue at all. Even in the all-party meeting convened by Chief Minister Mayawati ahead of the Winter Session, the Chief Minister remained non-committal on this issue when Opposition leaders questioned her about the Government’s move.
Samajwadi Party chief whip Ambika Chaudhury, who was also present in both the meetings, said Vote-on-Account for the next financial year was the only issue on Government’s official agenda.
“The Opposition wanted to know the State Government’s plans over Chief Minister’s announcement in connection with the division of State. But the response from the State Government was very cold,” Chaudhary told The Pioneer on Sunday.
Sources claimed that the State Government might bring a proposal over division of State and got it passed through voice vote.
