Baby B brings cheer to Bachchan clan

He and his family members may not have yet decided on a suitable name for Aishwarya’s newly born baby, but Amitabh Bachchan is pretty sure that his granddaughter looks very much like his actress-daughter-in-law.

“I feel the kid has gone on Aishwarya… though the growing baby’s face changes by the day. I still I feel the baby’s face looks like that of Aishwarya. But some people at home think that the face of the baby resembles that of Abhishek,” a proud grandfather in Sr Bachchan said, as he and his son Abhishek addressed the mediapersons on Tuesday evening.

Bachchans were more than excited to bring 38-year-old Aishwarya and her newly born baby to their home ‘Jalsa’ at Juhu in north-west Mumbai, six days after the actress delivered the baby girl at the Seven Hills Hospital on November 16.

“We have brought the baby home on Tuesday. We are all happy. It is like Goddess Lakhmi coming home… Like they say, life changes when a new person comes into one’s home. Things will longer be the same for us from now,” Sr Bachchan said.

“First, we went to Prateeksha, our earlier house, where we took the blessings of my late father and mother. We later brought the Aishwarya and the baby to Jalsa,” Sr Bachchan said.

The proud papa in Abhishek, who sat next to his father at their first media interaction after the birth of a baby girl in their family, said: “It is just a week since she was born, we are just enjoying every moment right now”.

“We have not named the baby as yet. Family members are mulling over the names.. if you all give me suggestions I will be happy,” Abhishek said.

Sr Bachchan disclosed that both Abhishek and Aishwarya wanted a daughter. “Finally they had their way.. we are all happy for them …. There has been so much publicity about our seeking suggestions for a name for her. We have been receiving a lot of suggestions and names from people. We will decide the name in a few days,” he said.

Both Sr Bachchan and Abhishek said there was no tradition in their family to have a function like “namkaran” “My grandfather believed that finding a name is enough so we have never had naming ceremonies.” Abhishek revealed.

“Though we do not have a belief or tradition of naming the kid after a particular alphabet, Aishwarya and Abhishek both want the name should begin with A. We will decide on it in a few days and post it twitter,” Sr Bachchan said.

Asked about his daughter, Abhishek said:” My daughter gives me time. She is very sweet. She is obedient. She does not cry much. She is quiet and behaving well.”

Sr Bachchan said he was “bekar” (unemployed) now, given that the game show Kaun Banega Crorepati was over and that he had no films on hand.

Abhishek chipped in and said of his father: “No. He is not bekar… He is in full duty of his granddaughter.” Sr Bachchan agreed with his son and said: “Bikul Sahi”.

Thirty-five-year-old Abhishek said he should not have any problem in coping as a father of a newly born baby. “I am the child of two actors. Neither of them had any problem spending time with me. I do not remember any occasion when my father and mother were not there for me., I never felt lack of parents’ love while growing up.. I had very good training from my parents.. I think I will be able to cope.”

Sr Bachchan was all praise for his daughter-in-law Aishwarya for her decision to go in for a normal delivery. “She did not even take pain killer when she labour pains,” he said.

Of his actress-wife, Abhishek said: “She is tired. But, she is very happy.”

A tired-looking Aishwarya — wearing peach coloured salwar-kameej —made a brief appearance before the media and posed for photographers with husband Abhishek.

“Jaya (grandmother) is also very happy and she is taking care of the baby and the mother,” Sr Bachchan said.

Abhishek said that he would start shooting after a week.
