Jamunia shows for Rs 50 lakh: I&B Mininistry
The Information and Broadcasting Ministry has refuted that Rs 50 crore has been allotted as first installment towards adaptation in different languages of the light-and-sound show called Jamunia, which highlights the shaping of modern India.
“The Song and Drama Division has an annual budget of Rs 1 crore for theatrical shows which include programmes apart from ‘Jamunia’. The statement in your report that Rs 50 crore has been allocated as the first installment is factually incorrect. The adaptation of the show in the regional language has been undertaken with an approximate cost of Rs 50 lakh and not Rs 50 crore as mentioned in your story,” the Ministry’s communication stated.
But the Ministry is silent on the main contention of the story that public money has been spent to highlight the contribution of Prime Ministers from the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty while ignoring the role of other PMs.
The Ministry claims that it is staging this light-and-sound show in different parts of the country with an allotted expenditure of Rs1 crore. However, the details available with The Pioneer speak otherwise.
The newspaper has documents to substantiate that so far expenses on staging the show under different heads have crossed Rs1 crore. Incidentally, more than 70 artistes perform in every show which is staged for five to 10 days in a particular town. The show has so far been staged in Delhi, Ranchi, Rae Bareli, Panna, Amravati, Rajkot, Hardwar and is currently being held in Amethi.
Vouchers available with The Pioneer show that Rs 15 lakh was spent alone in Ranchi towards spot payment to artistes and miscellaneous expense.
