Maharashtra Govt orders CID probe into tribal murder

Maharashtra Govt orders CID probe into tribal murder

After the Bombay High Court took serious cognisance of the brutal killing of a bonded labourer in Thane district, the Maharashtra Government on Wednesday ordered a CID inquiry into the murder and police arrested four persons, including the accused brick kiln owner, in connection with the incident.

An adivasi was chained, tortured and beaten to death in Shahapur taluka of Thane district. State Home Minister RR Patil ordered the inquiry after Shramjeevi Sanghatana president Vivek Pandit met him on Wednesday.

Jhipru Mukane (35), a Khatkari tribal, resident of Shere village, died on November 22, after having been chained and tortured for several days. His widow Jayabai (30) has alleged that he had died due to “torture” at the hands of his employer Balu Choudhary, a brick kiln owner.
