Uttarakhand shops closed
Normal life was badly hit as the shopkeepers kept their outlets closed in Uttarakhand on Thursday. However, the bandh more or less went off peacefully in Kumaon region amid tight security. Except busy market places, all other services of vital public interests functioned as usual.
Schools were closed as a precautionary measure. Visitors faced a tough time as they could not purchase essential commodities. Only a few vendors sold vegetables and fruits.
Major parties, including the BJP, supported the bandh. “The Centre must come out with a solution so that concerns of these traders and retailers could be removed,” Deepak Mehra, district BJP president told The Pioneer.
Thousands of traders under the banner of State Industry Traders Union took out a rally across Dehradun.
