    ULFA’s second-in-command held in Myanmar

    ULFA’s second-in-command held in Myanmar

In a big blow to Paresh Baruah-led hardline faction of ULFA, its second-in-command Jivan Moran has been detained by the Myanmar authorities along with an Indian journalist.

Confirming their detention , Union Home Secretary RK Singh said on Sunday that, “We have information that Jivan Moran and an Indian journalist were detained in Myanmar. But we have no information about the detention of Paresh Baruah.”

The detained journalist works for a Guwahati-based daily newspaper and had traveled to Myanmar apparently to interview Baruah.

Ministry sources said that journalist Rajib Bhattacharya and photographer Pradip Gogoi, who were detained by Mayanmarese army along with Moran, were released after their mobile phone and camera were confiscated.

Sources said the Myanmarese authorities have informed India about the detention of the ULFA leader. The duo was reportedly detained in the eastern part of Myanmar bordering China.

Indian intelligence agencies have been aware that after crackdown by Bangladesh Government on anti-Indian elements operating in that country, Baruah shifted base to somewhere in Western Myanmar.
