Maderna remanded to CBI custody
A special court at Jodhpur on Saturday sent sacked Minister Mahipal Maderna and another accused Parasram Bishnoi to CBI custody for a week for their alleged involvement in the kidnapping and killing of nurse Bhanwari Devi.
Sources said Sahi Ram, a close associate of Maderna and alleged mastermind in the kidnapping and killing of the nurse, is likely to surrender before the CBI. Sources said he was in touch with some local lawyers to seek their advice before his surrender. The State police and the CBI had failed to arrest Sahi Ram, who is carrying a reward of `5 lakh.
In its chargesheet, the CBI has made Sohan Lal, Baldev and Shahbuddin, who is believed to have actually kidnapped and killed the nurse, as main accused whereas Maderna and Sahi Ram are among those who conspired in her elimination. Though the name of Bishnoi was not in the FIR, CBI believes Bhanwari Devi had spoken to him when she was kidnapped. It believes Bishnoi, the younger brother of Congress MLA Malkhan Singh, also had a role in the crime. According to the chargesheet, Bhanwari Devi had relationship with Malkhan Singh, who had introduced her to Maderna.
