Devi's driver helps CBI tighten noose around her husband
The CBI probing the sensational disappearance case of nurse Bhanwari Devi has armed itself with a crucial piece of evidence that could further help it in unraveling the entire conspiracy.
Bhanwari Devi’s driver Farooq has alleged that her husband Amar Chand deliberately led her to believe that their car was unfit for travelling on the day she went missing due to which she was compelled to leave the house alone. The CBI on Friday recorded Farooq’s statement under Section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, which is admissible as evidence in a court of law.
The CBI had arrested Amar Chand following his flip-flops during questioning by the agency. During his questioning he had claimed that he had gone to a certain workshop to get his car repaired but the named garage was closed on that day.
The probe had also found that the site location of Amar Chand and Bhanwari’s cellphones matched. Thereafter, the nurse’s phone was switched off. Amar Chand had also tried to flee the circuit house where he was being questioned by the CBI officials at Jodhpur on Wednesday.
The driver’s questioning also resulted in the CBI officials suspecting the role of Amar Chand in the entire episode leading to the disappearance of Bhanwari.
Amar Chand had also refused to recognise some jewellery recovered during the probe as that of Bhanwari even as his children identified the same.
The CBI had arrested Amar Chand on Thursday and the officials suspect that he might be aware of the incidents prior to Bhanwari’s disappearance.
Meanwhile, a designated CBI court in Jodhpur remanded Amar Chand to the agency’s custody for five days.
The court also extended the CBI custody of sacked Rajasthan Minister Mahipal Maderna and another accused Parasram till December 12. They were produced before the CBI court on Friday.
Maderna (59), who represents Osian Assembly constituency, was arrested on December 2 in Jodhpur by the CBI along with Parasram Bishnoi, the brother of Congress MLA Malkhan Singh, after it filed chargesheet against three other arrested accused.
Bhanwari, 36, posted as an auxiliary nurse midwife at a sub-centre in Jaliwada village, is missing since September 1.
