    ‘Mishap’ averted at Kerala airport

    ‘Mishap’ averted at Kerala airport
A major mishap was reportedly averted at the Thiruvananthapuram international airport on Friday when a Sri Lankan Airlines flight landed seconds after an Emirates flight bound for Dubai took off from the same runway.

However, the authorities said that both planes had operated on schedule and that there was no possibility of an accident.

Emirates flight EK 521 with 241 passengers took off from Runway 32 at 11.10 am as scheduled to Dubai and Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL 161 with 154 passengers from Colombo landed on the same runway within a minute. Flight UL 161 was originally scheduled to land at 8.30 am and take off at 9.30 am.

There was nothing unusual in what had happened, claimed an airport source. “Those who saw one flight taking off and another landing within a minute could have been shocked as they may not be used to such things,” he said. However, the airport authorities have sought a report on the incident.
