Illegal mining cases must be investigated by retired HC judge: Ajay Singh

Challenging the Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition in the State Assembly Ajay Singh asked to get illegal mining cases investigated by a retired judge of the High Court, if he has courage to expose the people behind the illegal mining.

Singh said that the recent amendment in Mining Act by the Chief Minister proves that various irregularities are going on at ground level.

He also said that the Chief Minister's directives to the collectors to check the illegal mining in their respective areas, is clear acceptance to the allegations levelled against the Government during the no-confidence motion brought in the House.

"It is another fact that the Chief Minister and the Ministers tried to defend the charges of illegal mining during the discussion of no-confidence motion, but later they have accepted that illegal mining is going on unabated in many parts of the State," he added.

The leader of Opposition stated that the drive initiated by the Chief Minister against illegal miners in the State is a farce and it is an attempt to save the face of the Government.

Singh said that a high level enquiry should be constituted in this regard by the CM so that the real facts come to light.

"The Chief Minister is trying to save his own image and the directions given to the collectors of the State with no meaning," he said, adding that if impartial enquiry is conducted, several names will be exposed to damage the image of the Government.
