Centre for, Odisha against Posco: CM

Centre for, Odisha against Posco: CM
Even as Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Friday assured that the incident of violence leading to the death of one person at the proposed Posco steel plant site near Paradip would be investigated and stern action would be taken against those involved in the “unfortunate”incident, the main opposition Congress members staged a walkout in the State Assembly, expressing their displeasure.

Participating in a marathon four-hour discussion on the admissibility of an adjournment motion on Wednesday’s violence at the Posco site, the opposition members while accusing the State Government for the incident had demanded that an impartial inquiry either by a sitting Judge of the High Court or by the CBI to unearth the truth.

However, the treasury bench members slammed the opposition party for trying to sabotage the Posco project despite being the largest FDI project in the country.

The Leader of Opposition Bhupinder Singh and Congress Chief Whip Prasad Harichandan during the discussion on the motion alleged that the district administration and the police were responsible for the tragic incident. Seeking clarification from the Chief Minister as to why the police deployment was withdrawn from the tense spot they demaded that the government should initiate case against the police and the intelligence under 120 B of the IPC for their negligence and failure in controlling the situation. They also asserted that they had the video footage showing the Contractors engaging his private army and goons to attack the peaceful protestors.

They also sought to know form the Chief Minister why the construction activities were being undertaken in the absence of any legal Memorandum of Understanding between the state and the South Korean steel major Posco.
