Uttarakhand vaccination drive leaves kids infected
About 18 children complained of infections and swellings after an NGO carried out a vaccination drive in US Nagar’s Kashipur area a couple of days ago.
During investigation it was found that these children were vaccinated with anti-Hepatitis B injections a couple of days ago in Awas-Vikas area of Kashipur. This was the second health camp in the area. The first health camp was organised in Kashipur’s Manpur Road area but the local health officials did not allow the NGO to run the health camp that day, as they were not following certain norms.
The matter came to light when the patients took up the matter with the local health officials. “We had sent health teams to treat the patients after we received complaints from the local people,” said BC Joshi, CMS, Kashipur hospital, while talking to The Pioneer.
None of the NGO members, who had undertaken the vaccination drive here, could be identified. “We have found some names. One of the names that we found from the documents that we have recovered is Ram Dutt Dhyani,” Joshi said.
However, the CMS added that some phone numbers have also been recovered but no one is taking the call. So a detailed report has been sent to the higher authorities after visiting the patients and the areas including Awas-Vikas area of Kashipur, the CMS said.
Reportedly, the NGO did not get permission from the local health authorities before beginning the drive. Joshi said: “The NGO people must have got permission from the higher officials but not from us.”
Some NGOs have also tried organising similar health camps at Manpur Road, Kashipur on November 12 but the local health officials did not allow them to do so as they were not following the norms.
